Trip overview

Panoramic views of all sides of Africa’s largest mountain are offered on the 8-day Lemosho Route Kilimanjaro climb. Many climbers think they will be able to make it on this route. Itinerary

Day 1Londorossi Gate to Big Tree Camp (Mti Mkubwa Camp)

Time: 3hrs to 4hrs (Londosori Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp)

About 6 kilometers (Londosori Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp)

On this first day in your accommodation located in Moshi, you will meet and greet with our professional driver guide and then directly transferred to Londorossi Gate (2,250m). Upon completion of all the entry formalities and a final 15 km drive on a bumpy road you will reach your starting point at the edge of the rainforest. You will enjoy lunch before you set out on the trail through the rainforest. Today’s walk is quite short, thus giving you time to enjoy the lush scenery which will drastically change over the course of your trek. You might even catch a glimpse of the thumbless colobus monkeys sitting in the branches above you. Your dinner and overnight awaits you at the beautiful Big Tree Camp.

Day 2Big Tree Camp to Shira Camp

Time: 3hrs to 4hrs (Big Tree Camp to Shira Camp)

About 6 kilometers (Big Tree Camp to Shira Camp)

Morning wake up at your camp, and join the walk across the thin trail through the rainforest with the stunning and magnificent vegetation up to the moorland. Shira Camp 1 is where you will have dinner and spend the night after the trek. It is certain that you will be able to view the Shira Plateau from your camp and Kibo’s summit. You will be served dinner and overnight at your camp.

Day 3Shira Camp 1 - Shira Camp 2

Time: 6hrs to 7hrs (Shira Camp 1 to Shira Camp 2)

About 14 kilometers (Shira Camp 1 to Shira Camp 2)

As you depart from your camp in the morning, begin the nature trek through the rocky terrain and low grasses of Shira Ridge. Your hike today will seem more leisurely due to the flatter terrain than yesterday, and you will also get fantastic views of Mount Meru and the Great Rift Valley during your hike. Moors are still dotted with majestic giant lobelias. The evening meal and overnight stay will be served at Shira Camp 2, which lies on the ground where lava used to flow.

Day 4Shira Camp 1 - Lava Tower to Baracco Camp

Time: 5hrs to 6hrs (Shira Camp 2 to Lava Tower to Barraco Camp)

About 7 kilometers (Shira Camp 2 to Lava Tower to Barraco Camp)

As soon as you wake up from your camp for breakfast, you begin your trek to Lava Tower on boulder-strewn terrain. Viewing Kibo will inspire you to keep going, which will inspire you to keep going uphill. You will stop at Lava Tower to recover and allow your body to acclimatize to the greater altitude before continuing on to Barranco Camp. You will acclimate to altitude variations and adjust to oxygen exhaustion as a result of altitude fluctuations. After arriving at Barranco Camp, you may take out at the snow-capped mountains from its lush surroundings. Baracco Camp is an excellent choice for a meal and overnight stay.

Day 5Barraco Camp - Karanga

Time: 4 hrs to 5 hrs ( Barraco Camp to Karanga Camp)

About 5 kilometers (Barraco Camp to Karanga Camp)

On this day get up earlier in the morning from your camp at the stunning and far more challenging Barranco wall. Fortunately, your expert mountain guide will help you with the appropriate special techniques to face the tough climbing route until you reach the summit. You may need to use your hands in order to maintain your grip and to propel yourself. Finally, the route will take you up the Karanga Valley. When you eventually arrive at Karanga Camp Camp, dinner and overnight will be provided at the camp throughout your time of stay.

Time: 4 hrs to 5 hrs ( Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp)

About 4 kilometers (Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp)

As you cross the afro-alpine desert to reach the rocky Barafu Camp, the final leg of the journey, a sense of exhilaration settles in. Barafu Camp, which boasts a magnificent rocky landscape, offers a spectacular view of Mawenzi Peak. As necessary to rise earlier than normal on the next coming day, you will actually enjoy an earlier dinner and overnight at your camp.

Day 7Barafu Camp - Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp

About 8 kilometers (Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak) & 13Km (Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp)
This day is a once-in-a-lifetime event that begins earlier than usual at approximately midnight 2:00am, followed by a modest breakfast of hot tea and biscuits to invigorate and activate your body in preparation for rising to the peak of Africa’s tallest mountain. Ascend through the dense scree towards Stella Point. From Stella Point, continue around the crater rim for another 1 to 2 hours to reach Uhuru Peak (5,730m).
